Georgie Steele (CTO), Larsen Mabika (CEO) and the rest of the Maiven team
The increasingly complex regulatory environment means that many businesses feel they need multiple full-time compliance officers just to stay abreast of climate policies.
But what if we could harness AI to help businesses anticipate material climate policy risks and opportunities across their operations?
Maiven offers a revolutionary new service; its innovative AI-driven platform monitors and alerts companies on climate policy impacting their business operations, globally.
We joined Pale Blue Dot in a £1.5M pre-seed round in this climate-tech. We’re excited to lend our support to help this amazing team fulfil their potential.
Maiven is building an AI-powered solution to help medium and large enterprises operating in high carbon intensity sectors avoid costs and maximise revenue opportunities as they navigate a fast-changing policy landscape.
Medium and large companies don’t always know what current and future policies they are exposed to across their global operations and supply chains. This lack of visibility exposes them to unknown opportunities and risks, impacting their financial and operational performances.
Maiven leverages advanced artificial intelligence and expert knowledge to provide:
● Personalised Real-time Monitoring: Continuously tracking and analysing climate policy developments from around the world.
● Automated Alerts: Delivering timely notifications of climate policy changes that may impact companies' business operations and markets.
● In-Depth Analysis: Providing comprehensive insights and analysis to help businesses understand the implications of policy changes.
● Risk Mitigation: Enabling proactive risk assessment and strategic planning to navigate regulatory shifts and opportunities to take action.
All insights and data provided via the Maiven solution are real-time and personalised to the users’ specific business activities and goals so that they are never caught off guard by risks or miss a revenue opportunity.
We invest in businesses which tackle climate change and seize the opportunity it presents. Maiven helps businesses change behaviours at scale. Maiven’s technology allows businesses to comply with the changing and multiplying climate policies that are so key to reaching net zero by 2050. It adds an enterprise SaaS element to a deep-tech heavy portfolio.
Market opportunity: The number of climate policies has quadrupled in the past 15 years, with businesses now having to deal with 54 new policies per year on average. Monitoring global policy changes is time-consuming and can take up to 10 full-time employees, costing up to £800k per annum. Maiven is an AI-enabled platform that does all that work for businesses, allowing them instead to effortlessly keep a pulse on all policies that apply to them, and identify risks and opportunities in their operations. This will become increasingly vital for businesses: current and incoming regulations will have a huge impact on supply and demand dynamics across sectors and markets, forcing companies to change their operating models.
Faith in the founders: Larsen Mabika (CEO) and Georgie Steele (CTO) met while working at Sylvera , a carbon data and climate action technology company that is backed by Balderton, Index, Local Globe and Insight. Larsen was one of Sylvera's first product hires, building multiple products from 0 to 1 helping the company grow from Seed to Series B ($60M). Georgie has a strong technical background and career to date, excelling at companies like Tractable and McLaren Racing, and achieving a 1st in Mech Eng at Cambridge.
The founders are first-time founders, and we believe they have everything we look for in founders: complementary skills; shared mission-driven values; deep knowledge and practical experience of the industry; and very high ambition levels.
An evidence-first approach: The founders are already validating their solution with 200+ prospecting conversations with potential customers, early customers signed and their first product already shipped. Climate Impact Partners, a leader in carbon market solutions for more than 25 years, is a strategic partner and early adopter of the platform.
Our Venture Partner, Dorothy Chou, actually met Maiven co-founder Georgie on a panel for Women who Build, and they immediately hit it off. That’s why outreach is such an important part of what we do here at Ada Ventures. Dorothy couldn’t put it better:
“It goes to show that when you show up in unexpected places and spaces, the right deals come your way.”
Dorothy is the Director of Policy & Public Engagement at Google DeepMind and an Angel investor in Maiven. She’s passionate about using AI to tackle climate change, and is a key input into portfolio decisions here at Ada Ventures. She was impressed by Maiven’s thesis and clear focus on a specific slice of climate data:
“Increasingly, data quality and fidelity will be a key differentiator, rather than just compute power alone.”
Customers, products and team will be the key focus of the Maiven team. Having made progress on customers and product, the founders focused on team and hired phenomenal alumni from McKinsey, Amazon, Sylvera and Bulb. The early focus on team and culture has and will continue to help accelerate product development and iteration velocity, and deliver more value to customers.
